World Series of Bingo
Not too far back in the news, there was an item regarding the World Championship bingo game offered by Paddy Power, the online bingo site. Fortunately we were not shown up in the game and a UK gentleman won. His apparent good fortune was apparently only due to the fact that the Football championships were no longer on at that time. Now I was a little confused at the time, as to how this could be a World Championship game, but it made perfect sense as the game was online bingo and of course most people would be able to enter in this way.
Another news snippet has also caught my eye, the “World Series of Bingo – Night of Champions”. This is obviously an American exaggeration, a little like the “world series of baseball”, as it was a game that was open only to US member states. However they did have players form Michigan to Ohio and the number of competitors was more than 600 players.
Nevertheless it was free bingo with a chance to win prizes in total of $50 000, with the single largest payout being $20 000. The winner, Valli Long said that she considers the game of bingo to be her sport, the game keeps you mentally active because it is so exciting. She was pretty sure that she was going to win however as this was a night she had always dreamed of.
It is pretty obvious to me that Valli was feeling secure in her luck and this is why she won, but it is not so obvious to me why the Title of the game was so world encompassing. Surely with online bingo there is a difference as competitors from other countries are able to play and this makes it more open to the world.
